Muhammad Abdul-Ghani, MD, PhD is a Professor of Medicine at the Diabetes Division, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He graduated from the MD, PhD program of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research interest focuses on the pathophysiology, prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes. He has published over 160 articles in peer reviewed journal in the field and has been consecutively funded by the NIH/NIDDK for over 15 years. He has made major innovative discoveries about the pathophysiology and treatment of IGT/IFG and type 2 diabetes. His cleric EPIC and QATAR studies has led the American Diabetes Association to recommend for the first time, initiation of therapy in newly diagnosed T2DM patients with combination therapy. He has made many terminal observations about the mechanism of costa of the SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and thiazolidinediones.
