Hasan İlkova, who graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1978 and is currently a faculty member in the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes at the same university, became a specialist in 1985, an associate professor in 1987 and a professor in 1993. He worked on Insulin Secretion and Beta Cell Physiology at the University of Michigan between 1987-89. He worked as a visiting professor in the Department of Islet Physiology and Transplantation at the Harvard University Joslin Diabetes Center between 1995-1997; he conducted research on the effects of chronic hyperglycemia on islets. He won the Eczacıbaşı Medical Encouragement Award in 1990.
He served as the Secretary General of the Turkish Diabetes Association between 1991-1995/1997-2000, and as the Head of the Diabetes Metabolism Department at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty between 1998-2000. A member of the Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Association, Prof. İlkova is the Secretary General of the Diabetes Obesity and Nutrition Association, as well as the President of the Turkish Diabetes Association, Diabetes and Obesity Research Association.
